ALBANY GUARDIAN SOCIETY

Founded in 1852, Albany Guardian Society, located in Albany, New York, is one of the region’s oldest charitable foundations. The mission of Albany Guardian Society is to improve the lives of seniors in the Capital Region, their families and their caregivers, through information, education, research, and collaboration.

Some of our current programs include offering over 150 educational classes through our AGS Institute, community forums, a “Senior Housing Options” directory, a “Senior Transportation Options” directory, and support of the “Village” movement in the Capital Region.

The AGS Institute offers over 125 educational programs a year on aging-related topics such as aging in community, caregiving, healthy aging, housing, professional development, and technology. Classes are currently taught through “Zoom” (video or telephone) by professionals in their areas of expertise. Although there is no cost to attend, registration is required.

Transportation is a vital link for seniors to remain active and independent in their community. New in 2020, the “Transportation Options for Senior Adults in the Capital Region” directory provides the name, contact information, specific services provided, hours of service, accommodations, and fees for the senior transportation options in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. Please note that due to the COVID- 19 pandemic hours and availably of transportation services may be altered.
