Have you ever helped someone without realizing you’re a caregiver? Many do, without recognizing it. Balancing work, family, and responsibilities can be challenging, but your caregiving journey is unique—and we’re here to support you.
We encourage you to explore resources and services that can help you care for yourself while managing caregiving duties. By seeking support and prioritizing self-care, you can create a healthier, more sustainable caregiving experience. Remember, you don’t have to do it alone.
John, an only child with a full-time job, helps care for his dad by bringing him to the grocery store once a week and taking out the garbage. He also checks in with his dad every day, calling in the morning before work and after dinner. Though John has never considered himself a caregiver, the reality is, he is.
One day, while picking his dad up for their usual trip to the store, John noticed his dad was struggling to get down the stairs. His dad mentioned he hadn’t been able to go up to the second floor of his home for the past few days. Concerned, John began researching resources for older adults but wasn’t sure where to turn. That’s when he discovered the AGS website.
There, John found helpful information on how to support his dad in aging-in-place, as well as a housing directory that explored other options. He was able to research potential older adult communities that could offer his dad opportunities for socialization while also helping him maintain his independence. Thanks to the AGS website, John felt more equipped to help his dad.
